José Martínez Receives Two 2026 Emmy Award Nominations

READING, Pa. — Emmy Award-winning journalist José Martínez has received two 2026 Emmy Award nominations from the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences for his work at WFMZ-TV.

Martínez earned an individual nomination in the Diversity/Equity/Inclusion – News category for Night to Shine: A Prom Night to Remember, a story highlighting inclusion and the power of community through an unforgettable prom experience for people with special needs.

He also received a nomination as part of the station’s team coverage of Papa Francisco: Su Legado, recognized in the Team Coverage category.

The two nominations bring Martínez’s career total to four Emmy Award nominations, including two Emmy Award wins, recognizing his work in local television journalism.

“Every story begins with someone willing to share a part of their life,” Martínez said. “I’m grateful to every person who trusted me with their experiences, to my colleagues at WFMZ who helped bring these stories to life, and to the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences for this incredible honor.”

Martínez rejoined WFMZ-TV in 2025 after reporting for CBS News Bay Area (KPIX-TV) in San Francisco and NY1 Noticias in New York City. Throughout his career, he has focused on telling stories that inform, connect, and elevate communities.

In addition to his work in television, Martínez is the author of Your English Is Great, But…, serves as Chair of the Education Writers Association’s Journalists Advisory Board, and regularly speaks on journalism, storytelling, and bilingual media.

The 2026 Emmy Awards ceremony will recognize excellence in television journalism across the region later this year.
