José Martínez is an accomplished bilingual journalist, TV personality, and Strategic Communications Specialist who has received multiple Emmy Awards for his outstanding work.
With a passion for delivering impactful news, José is thrilled to return to 69 News as an anchor and reporter, covering primetime shows and special stories in both English and Spanish. This marks a homecoming to the station where he built lasting connections with the community and earned two Emmy Awards for his exceptional storytelling.
Most recently, José served as a reporter for CBS News San Francisco Bay Area, where he specialized in character-driven stories that brought attention to critical local, state, and national issues.
Before joining CBS, José worked as a respected bilingual reporter and fill-in anchor for 69 News: Edición en Español, covering stories across the Lehigh Valley and Berks County. During his tenure at NY1 Noticias in New York City, he broke significant stories shedding light on the challenges faced by immigrant communities, including unsafe working conditions, sexual harassment, and labor law violations.
José’s experience also includes working as a Metro Reporter for El Diario de Nueva York, where he reported on politics, education, and immigration from New York City Hall and the NYPD. Internationally, he has served as a correspondent for Ycodendaute Radio Tenerife in Spain and as an immigration analyst for BronxNet News. As the Editor-in-Chief of Noticia Long Island, José directed and hosted the popular online talk show Café con José.
Recognized for his dedication and excellence in journalism, José has received prestigious honors, including two Emmy Awards, the Media & Journalism Award from the Colombian American Chamber of Commerce and Nassau County (2017, 2019), and recognition as Media of the Year in the Latinus 20 Under 30 (2017).
José’s journalistic journey began in Colombia, where he worked at El Tiempo and City TV. He pursued his studies in Broadcasting News through fellowships at the University of Central Florida and the CUNY Graduate School of Journalism in New York City. He is an active member of the Education Writers Association (EWA) and the National Association of Hispanic Journalists (NAHJ).
