José Martínez Shares Your English is Great, But… at the 19th Hispanic/Latino Book Fair in Queens

Jackson Heights, NY — Emmy Award–winning journalist and author José Martínez took part in the 19th Hispanic/Latino Book Fair in Queens, held October 10–12, 2025, at the Renaissance Charter School in Jackson Heights. The event, organized by the Hispanic/Latino Cultural Center of New York, brought together writers, poets, educators, and community leaders to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month and Latino storytelling.

Martínez presented his debut book, Your English is Great, But…, during a special session on Saturday, October 11, alongside fellow authors Miguel Fálquez-Certain and Leslies Farrán.

“This is where it all started for me — in Jackson Heights,” said Martínez. “Coming back to present my book here, surrounded by the same community that shaped me as a reporter and as a person, means everything.”

Your English is Great, But… is a deeply personal collection of essays exploring language, identity, grief, and the immigrant experience. Published under Martínez’s independent imprint VOZ NYC, the book reflects on what it means to navigate life between cultures and languages.

This year’s fair honored Dominican writer Dagoberto López-Coño, recognizing his decades-long contribution to literature and community activism. The festival continues to be one of the most important Latino literary gatherings in New York City, offering free admission and open access to readers and families.
