Washington, D.C. – October 2025 — Emmy Award–winning journalist, strategic communications specialist, and author José Martínez has been appointed to the Journalist Advisory Board of the Education Writers Association (EWA), the nation’s professional membership organization for journalists who cover education.
Martínez, who has been an active member of EWA for more than a decade, brings years of experience reporting on education, immigration, culture, and community issues at both the local and national levels. His appointment to the Journalist Advisory Board represents a full-circle moment in his career, as he now takes on a role guiding the very organization that has supported his growth and professional development as a reporter.
“As an EWA member for more than ten years, I’ve seen firsthand the power of this community to uplift education journalism and connect journalists across the country. I am honored to join the Journalist Advisory Board and proud to represent so many journalists — including my fellow Latinos — who are committed to telling stories that matter,” said Martínez.
The Journalist Advisory Board plays a key role in helping EWA advance its mission to strengthen the community of education reporters nationwide. Alongside colleagues from outlets such as The Oaklandside, Conecta Arizona, and The 74 Million, Martínez will contribute his perspective and expertise to guide EWA’s programming and initiatives.
Martínez currently serves as a bilingual anchor and reporter at WFMZ-TV 69 News in Pennsylvania, where he covers a wide range of issues with a focus on community impact. He previously reported for CBS News Bay Area/KPIX and NY1 Noticias, and is the author of the memoir-essay collection Your English is Great, But…, published under his independent imprint VOZ NYC.
