
San Francisco, CA — November 13, 2024 — José Martínez, a dedicated and respected reporter for KPIX-TV, CBS News Bay Area, has announced that his final day on air will be next Friday, November 22nd. During his tenure, Martínez has been at the forefront of covering stories that highlight the diverse culture, resilience, and vital voices within the Bay Area, especially in the Mission District.
Joining KPIX-TV nearly two years ago, Martínez brought a unique blend of passion and storytelling that captured the essence of communities across the region. From amplifying the work of the Mission Cultural Center for Latino Arts to covering essential stories like the LGBT Asylum project and the street vendors moratorium, Martínez has showcased a deep commitment to representation, inclusivity, and advocacy.
“It’s been an incredible journey filled with meaningful connections, celebrations, and sometimes difficult but necessary conversations,” Martínez said. “I’m grateful to KPIX for trusting me with stories that matter and for allowing me to spotlight the LGBTQ community, farmworkers, and so much more. The warmth and trust from the people of San Francisco, particularly the Mission District, have meant everything to me.”
Martínez extends heartfelt thanks to KPIX-TV’s leadership team, producers, editors, and colleagues who share the mission of uplifting and informing the community. The love and support from these teams made every step of this journey worthwhile.
While this chapter at KPIX-TV comes to an end, Martínez is excited to announce his next professional chapter soon. He looks forward to continuing to serve as a voice for communities and sharing stories that matter. “This is not goodbye—just see you soon,” Martínez added.
